Above the doors on each floor are two arrows which may be lighted to indicate whether the elevatoris at a lower floor and coming up or at a higher floor and coming down. |
| At one side of the doors are two push buttons with lamps behind them. Pressing a button turns on the associated lamp and signal that the elevator is requested. When the elevator stops at the floor, going in the direction of the arrow, the lamp is extinguished. |

The above "stuff" requires 7 wires from each floor (assuming a common
ground wire). We need to seek an alternate solution because copper is much
more expensive today than silicon.
| Inside the car is a bank of buttons, one for each floor. There are
usually a few other buttons such as OPEN DOOR, EMERGENCY, etc. but we won't
deal with them now. Also, not shown, is a row a numbered lamps above the
door that indicate which floor the elevator is currently at.
For a 32 floor building (including the basement), there would have to be 97 wires running to the controller (assuming a common ground wire), 32 for the buttons, 32 for the lights in the buttons and 32 for the lights over the door. An alternate solution is needed here too. |
