2D-FFT of Images

To use the SIPTool to study Fourier Optics, you will need to follow a few steps (listed below) to first download and install, and then to run. You will then be able to examine the FT of various images that are provided by your instructor.

  1. Download a SIPTool Demo for 2-D Fourier Transform, and unzip.
  2. Run the SIPTool.exe program and use the 'User' menu options to take a 2-D Fourier Transform (FFT) of the 'Input' image.
  3. Experiment with other input images by replacing the 'Input.bmp' image in the 'SIPTool_Files' folder. Note images should not contain color and should be square, 128x128.

Note: The spectrum can be displayed using either log or linear intensity scaling. See the 'User' menu. The log intensity scaling reveals low intensity variations in the transform domain. The linear mode should be roughly similar to what is visible to the eye, using equipment in the EE Photonics Lab. Examples follow.
